Double bookings: taken slots are locked

Client
A roof inspection company in the US. One inspector visits homes for roofing contractors and writes photo reports they use in insurance claims.
Problem
All the work ran through one person. Every booking, visit, report and bill passed through the inspector's hands.
- Bookings came in loose. Contractors had no way to see which hours were free. Each request meant back and forth, and the risk of two jobs in one slot.
- Reports were hard to send. One thorough inspection can mean hundreds of megabytes of photos. That is too big to email.
- Getting paid was a separate job. Each finished inspection still needed an invoice, and then follow-up to collect it.
- Homeowners were hard to reach. The only way to get a homeowner's phone number was to go back through the contractor.
What we built
We understood the problem, then picked the platform that fits. The client needed one place where contractors book, the inspector works, and money moves without a second step. We built a custom app with two sides: one for contractors and one for the inspector.
- Self sign-up and booking. Contractors create their own account and request an inspection in minutes. They pick a date and a one-hour slot. Taken slots grey out, so a double booking cannot happen.
- A street-level view of every property. It is built into each job, so the inspector can look at the house before the visit and prepare the right ladder and gear.
- The inspector's day on one screen. Today's route on a map, and the pending queue with one-tap accept.
- Photos, documents and a note. The inspector uploads everything to the job, adds priced line items and writes a note for the contractor.
- Complete and charge in one click. The contractor's card on file is charged and the report is emailed at the same moment, with a button to download all the photos as one file, whatever the size.
- Billing that tracks itself. Pay period and monthly totals, refunds, failed-card alerts, and a searchable contractor list.
Before
The inspector booked jobs by hand, sent reports separately and chased each invoice.
After
Contractors book themselves, and one click finishes the job, sends the report and collects payment.
Results
- Booking, reporting and billing are now one step. Before, each was its own job.
- Double bookings are blocked by the system. Before, they were avoided by hand.
- A 64MB set of photos downloads as one file in 49 seconds. That is about three times what an email could carry.
Timeline & scope
14 days. Delivered: the contractor app, the inspector app, card payments with automatic charging, nine automatic emails, a public website with pricing, and phone and desktop layouts.
In their words
“Hassan exceeded my expectations with the job we worked on together. He went above and beyond to make my vision become a reality. 10/10 experience.”
Screens show the real app with sample data. Names and addresses are invented.
